Our group carry out fundamental research to better understand viral and phytoplasma pathogens, improve diagnostic methods for their detection, and support the development of new strategies for disease control. A key element of our work is high-throughput RNA sequencing (HTS), which, as a diagnostic method, has been introduced to Hungary by us. Since the HTS-based virome investigation has revolutionised virus diagnostics, this research is essential.
Using HTS, we surveyed the virome of vineyards (both scion and rootstock plantations), apple and stone fruit orchards, and weeds; monitored virus elimination processes; and revisited viruses previously described by classical methods, while reporting the first occurrence of numerous viruses in Hungary.
